Following on from INTERPLAY in November 2012, Hand in Glove ran Part 2: TENTERPLAY, bringing together artists and artist-led groups to further investigate aspects of artist-led practice.
The aims of the event were to reignite conversations started at INTERPLAY and encourage future dialogue between artists, artist-led groups/projects/spaces/arts initiatives and non NPO organisations, to strengthen the regional arts community. We also wanted to facilitate a platform for more in-depth critique of artist-led practice; its strengths, its failings and the challenges we all face in making this kind of activity happen.
During TENTERPLAY there were five activities based on important survival skills or resources:
Survival kit Organisational structures, networks, communicating with audiences etc.
Shelter Working with or without fixed spaces; the benefits & limitations, obstacles etc.
Food and water Programming and curatorial approaches, timescales, decision making etc.
First aid Funding and other support/sponsorship; what there is & how we access it, what is lacking etc.
Navigation The future, planning and sustainability; where do we go from here?
